Extension of outdoor living space, with a timber deck and concrete slab for a storage shed.

One of our clients from Aberglasslyn, New South Wales, needed a continuation of their tiled alfresco area. The plan was to do a simple, expertly crafted timber decking extension.

The timber which we used was large 140mm wide "merbau" decking boards. These timber decking boards offer a bold, strong, timber finish, which complemented and visually contrasted their existing tiled outdoor area. The roof component was a Stratco insulated roofing sheet, part of their "Outback" range.

In order to perfectly complete this timber deck extension, we needed to lay a concrete slab, instead of traditional post and bearers, as the concrete slab allowed the timber joists and decking to be securely fixed. In essence, this wasn't just a backyard timber deck, but an entirely new 25 square meter outdoor room extension.

In addition to the slab, we also needed to pour a concrete pathway from the side entrance and backyard shed to the deck.

The deck, being only 200mm above finished ground level meant that there would be no way to adequately ventilate the sub floor, therefore no air circulation under the deck. This scenario, if not expertly handled could cause mould and rot problems in the future. This is where the value of a licensed builder saves you potentially thousands of dollars.

Often DIY decking construction guides don't mention the finer details that may be specific to your build. As expert, licensed builders we understand these nuance details intimately. Not only will we give you a high quality construction on time and on budget, but you can be rest assured that your project is built to standard.
